With the start of Ramadan 2025 in the UAE, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Dubai Municipality have shared a few pointers as guidance and support for residents who are fasting. This is mainly to maintain optimal health and well-being during the holy month.

It emphasizes the patterns of over-eating, to maintaining sleep and exercise routines. In a social media post, the DHA listed out the ‘Dos and Don’ts’ to follow throughout the month.

How many hours of sleep is recommended?

“Get adequate sleep during the night for at least four hours before waking up for Suhoor,” advises the DHA.

What should you drink?

As per the pointers, one must drink lots of fluids, eat nuts and fish as they contain vitamin E that regenerates skin cells.

For those looking to lose weight, exercising an hour before Iftar to burn fat works well.

For the parents:

It is advised that children should gradually start fasting and slowly increase the hours they fast. Parents have also been cautioned not to rush them into completing the entire fast, particularly if they are under the age of nine.

In the don’ts, the DHA insists on not overeating in the night, especially just before going to bed, as this causes trouble sleeping and can also lead to acid reflux.

“Avoid exercise under direct sunlight or in a hot place. Don’t eat fatty food and soft drinks as they may cause pimples,” reads another pointer.
