Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) completed 67 rapid traffic improvement measures across the emirate in 2025. These included 46 enhancements on major arterial and residential roads, 12 upgrades in school zones, and 9 measures in development areas.

These initiatives are part of a broader RTA strategy aimed at optimising road network efficiency, enhancing traffic flow, and improving safety for all road users.

Looking ahead, RTA plans to implement over 45 additional traffic improvement measures in 2026. These will involve widening and upgrading key intersections, improving entry and exit points in residential and commercial districts, and introducing further rapid traffic solutions in school zones.

The projects reflect RTA’s commitment to supporting the leadership’s vision for sustainable infrastructure, boosting mobility efficiency, reducing travel time and congestion, and strengthening connectivity between residential, educational, and development areas—all contributing to an improved quality of life in Dubai.

The 2025 measures already produced tangible results, including up to 45% faster journey times in improved areas and vehicular capacity increases of up to 33% on several roads.

Key areas benefiting from these improvements included Al Warqa’a, Al Barsha South, Nad Al Hamar, and Al Ras, as well as major corridors such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Meydan Street, Emirates Road towards Sharjah, Umm Al Sheif Street, Al Wasl Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Al Manara Street.

Notable works included widening Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Meydan Street from two to three lanes at the entrance to Al Khawaneej, expanding Al Meydan Bridge from three to four lanes, and improving exits and connections between surface roads and the bridge. Upgrades at the Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street intersection increased vehicular capacity by 50% and reduced waiting times by over 30%.

RTA also implemented 12 traffic improvement measures benefiting more than 30 schools, enhancing traffic operations and safety in school zones. Key locations included schools in Al Warqa’a First, Mizhar First, Al Qusais, Al Garhoud, Al Safa 1, Mizhar 4, and Al Barsha South. Improvements featured dedicated parking areas, upgraded entry and exit points, and traffic-calming measures, contributing to reduced congestion, smoother traffic flow, and safer roads around schools.
