The company said on Monday that Humain, an AI-based company based in Saudi Arabia and established by the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, is due to roll out a computer operating system this week, which will allow users to talk to a computer and tell it to complete tasks.

A spokesperson of the company stated that it regards systems like its new product, Humain 1, as a possible eventual replacement of icon-based systems like Windows or macOS, which have ruled the personal computer operating systems since the mid-1980s.

Humain CEO, Tareq Amin, added at the Fortune Global Forum in Riyadh that “Rather than looking at icons where you click for discrete applications, now you (…) speak your intent.”

Other firms are also in the process of preparing similar products, but Humain hopes it will be the first to formally roll out its system.

Humain was initiated in May within the sovereign wealth fund of the kingdom, the Public Investment Fund, and is headed by the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It provides AI services and products such as data centers, AI infrastructure, cloud services, as well as advanced AI models.

The operating system of a computer is the software that serves as an interface between the user and the computer to control hardware resources and to offer the fundamental services to all other software.

A spokesperson of Humain, who refused to be named, added that the company began expanding its new operating system soon after it launched as a company in May. He said it has been internally testing the operating system with its internal payroll and human resources systems.

He also further stated that Humain intends to construct around 6 gigawatts of data center capacity, though he did not specify where.
