Sharjah International Airport reported a notable increase in its passenger traffic during the first quarter of 2025. Welcoming over 4.5 million travelers, this marks a rise of 8% compared to the same period last year.

What led to the boom in travel to Sharjah?

Flight Movements: The airport facilitated more than 27,000 flight operations, reflecting a steady demand for air travel.

Cargo Handling: Over 52,000 tons of cargo were processed, in addition to 3,000 tons of air and sea freight, highlighting the airport’s robust logistics capabilities.

Private Aviation: Private aircraft traffic saw a 26.4% increase, with a 20% rise in passengers handled by Gama Aviation, indicating a growing preference for private air travel.

Expansion Plans

His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, attributed these achievements to the authority’s strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and expanding global connectivity. He emphasized that the airport’s continuous growth reflects the confidence of airlines, logistics partners, and travelers in Sharjah Airport’s services.

Looking ahead, the airport is progressing with expansion projects designed to increase its capacity to over 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027. These developments are aligned with Sharjah’s broader economic goals and aim to solidify the airport’s position as a major strategic hub in the regional and global aviation network.
