Sharjah residents can expect delays in their commute until August 30, 2025, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. The ones traveling by the Emirates Road towards Sharjah will experience significant traffic delays every Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, starting May 2, 2025.
These delays are due to ongoing maintenance and rehabilitation works between Dubai-Al Ain Road and the Al Amardhi–Al Awir Road intersection.
In a statement, the RTA said, “Expected delays on Emirates Road towards Sharjah due to maintenance and rehabilitation works between Dubai-Al Ain Road and the Al Amardhi-Al Awir Road intersection towards Sharjah during weekends from 5:00 PM to 8 PM.”

Motorists, employees are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid the affected areas during these peak hours.
The RTA recommends exploring alternative routes or adjusting travel times to minimize inconvenience. The maintenance is part of the RTA’s efforts to enhance road infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic flow in the long term.
Commuters can stay informed about real-time traffic updates and further advisories through the RTA’s official channels and local news outlets.
However, this raises concerns for Sharjah travellers who spend nearly 2.5 hours one way each day to make it to Dubai for work or other commitments. The F360 had earlier reported that many residents have voiced their opinions about the excessive fatigue and tensions that come with the increasing traffic woes in the city, preventing them from getting any time for personal commitments.
