Sharjah Ruler Approves ‘Care Leave’ For Female Employees

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, chaired the Executive Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday at the Ruler’s Office. The session was also attended by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

The council reviewed a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing governance, employee welfare, and community services across the emirate, reports WAM. The discussions aligned with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Key Outcomes from the Meeting:

1. Enhanced Care Leave Policy for Mothers

The council approved amendments to Resolution No. (12) of 2021 under Law No. (6) of 2015, which now grants fully paid care leave to female employees who give birth to children with medical conditions or disabilities requiring full-time care.

  • Leave starts after maternity leave and extends for one year with full pay.
  • It can be renewed annually for up to three years with proper medical documentation.
  • Leave is counted toward total service.
  • Cases exceeding three years will be reviewed by the Higher Committee for Human Resources.

2. Human Resources Regulations for Military Personnel

A new resolution was passed concerning Law No. (2) of 2021, focused on HR for military personnel. It includes:

  • Detailed regulations on job classifications, salaries, allowances, and promotions.
  • Procedures for internal transfers, training, educational leave, and end-of-service benefits.
  • Guidelines for performance appraisals and employment responsibilities.

3. District Councils: Performance and Expansion

The council reviewed a performance report on district councils and discussed expansion plans across various cities. These councils play a pivotal role in:

  • Enhancing social cohesion.
  • Promoting cultural awareness.
  • Driving community engagement across the emirate.

The decisions reaffirm Sharjah’s commitment to progressive governance and social well-being, while also supporting employees and communities with forward-thinking policies.
