Thumbay Hospital Fujairah brought together more than 500 community members on Wednesday for a large-scale walkathon to mark World Diabetes Day, reinforcing the UAE’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about early detection and prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.
Organised under the theme “Know Your Risk, Know Your Response,” the event featured a 2 km walk, health awareness sessions, and free medical screenings. Participants included students from local schools and universities, fitness groups, patients, and families – reflecting a strong community response to the growing prevalence of diabetes across the region.
As part of the initiative, medical teams from Thumbay Hospital conducted complimentary blood sugar checks, blood pressure tests, BMI assessments, and nutrition consultations. Doctors and educators also held interactive sessions focusing on preventive care, healthier lifestyle choices, and the importance of regular check-ups.
Hospital officials noted that diabetes remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in the UAE, with early detection and lifestyle interventions proving key to reducing long-term risks.
A spokesperson from Thumbay Healthcare Division said the event aligns with the nation’s vision for a healthier community:
“Raising awareness and empowering individuals with accurate information is essential. Through initiatives like this, we aim to encourage people to take charge of their health and understand the importance of early screening.”
The event concluded with certificate distribution, fitness activities, and community engagement sessions encouraging long-term participation in health-focused initiatives.
Thumbay Hospital Fujairah plans to continue rolling out similar outreach programmes throughout the year as part of its preventive healthcare mission and commitment to community well-being.
