The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has warned that unstable weather conditions, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall of varying intensity, are expected to affect parts of the UAE today (Wednesday, 20th August) and tomorrow (Thursday, 21st August).
The NCM explained that the country is currently being influenced by the extension of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which has shifted northward, combined with the advancement of surface and upper-level low-pressure systems from the south. Moist air masses flowing in from the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman are further fuelling the conditions.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise, and convective cloud formation is forecast over scattered areas, particularly around the eastern mountains. These clouds are likely to bring rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder at times.
The impact will be most felt across eastern and southern regions, with some internal areas also likely to see unstable weather. Winds are predicted to be south-easterly to north-easterly, moderate to fresh, becoming strong at times, especially during cloud activity. These gusts could raise dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility in some areas.
At sea, conditions are forecast to be slight to moderate in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution, avoid wadis and areas prone to flash flooding, and stay updated with official weather alerts over the next two days.
