H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, met with Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on Saturday at the ministry’s office in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in higher education and research between the UAE and Egypt.
Sheikh Sultan conveyed greetings from H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and expressed pride in the deep-rooted relations between the two nations. He praised Egypt’s long-standing reputation in education and scientific research, highlighting that it was the natural choice for the University of Sharjah’s first overseas branch in Cairo.
“The University of Sharjah is among the top universities in the Arab world, and our collaboration with Egypt reflects our shared commitment to advancing higher education and research for the benefit of our communities,” Sheikh Sultan said.
Dr. Ashour welcomed Sheikh Sultan and reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen its academic ties with the UAE, particularly through collaborative initiatives in research, faculty exchange, and student mobility programs.
Expanding Collaboration in Research and Education
The discussions included exploring joint research projects, academic conferences, and faculty exchange programs to address contemporary challenges in science and society. Both sides also emphasized the importance of student exchange initiatives, which would enable students from the University of Sharjah and Egyptian universities to participate in academic and cultural activities across both countries.
Dr. Ashour underscored the value of such partnerships in enhancing skills, knowledge, and job market readiness for students in both nations, while fostering stronger academic integration across the Arab region.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both countries, including:
- From the UAE: Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Legal Advisor to the Sharjah Government and Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Sharjah; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council; and Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Advisor to the President of the University of Sharjah.
- From Egypt: Dr. Abdul Wahab Ezzat, Secretary of the Private Universities Council; Dr. Mohamed Al Sharqawi, Assistant Minister for Policies and Economic Affairs; and Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The talks concluded with a shared vision to deepen strategic partnerships in education and research, reflecting the strong bilateral ties and mutual aspirations of the UAE and Egypt to position their universities as global centers of knowledge and innovation.
