As part of the UAE’s traffic awareness campaign, ‘Accident Free Day’, set to launch on 26th August, the Ministry of Interior has announced traffic penalty reductions for all drivers in the UAE. All traffic law-abiding drivers can see a reduction of four black points from their total tally as part of this national scheme.

This initiative coincides with the beginning of the new academic term for schools across the nation. To combat the inevitable rise in traffic infractions as school buses rejoin the daily commute, the Ministry of Interior invites all drivers and parents to sign a traffic pledge available on their official website. Drivers in the UAE must abide by traffic laws for two weeks post-26th August to cash in on the incentives for these initiatives.

According to authorities, UAE’s Accident Free Day “aims to foster a culture of responsible driving by educating drivers on vehicle safety, adhering to speed limits near schools, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phones.” Barring school zones spread across the nation, all motorists must ensure lane discipline, maintain safe distances, be cautious of pedestrians, and give priority to emergency vehicles during their daily commutes.
