UAE Brings In AI Technology To Boost Advanced Cloud-Seeding

A recent study revealed that the UAE faces massive water scarcity due to its climate fluctuations. And now, to resolve this issue, the country has been actively propagating cloud seeding techniques to increase rainfall. In 2024, the UAE tapped for the best – by integrating AI into its cloud seeding operations.

By using AI, meteorologists can analyze vast amounts of weather data in real-time, enabling them to predict the timing and locations for the same. The technology enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the process, resulting in a significant increase in rainfall.

The UAE’s investment in cloud seeding technology has yielded substantial benefits. The country has reportedly experienced an annual minimum increase of 15% in rainfall, boosting facilities. More so, this additional water supply, between 84 and 419 million cubic meters annually, contributes to the region’s overall water resources, which typically receive around 6.7 billion cubic meters of rainfall per year.

Omar Al Yazeedi, deputy director general of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), said to Khaleej Times, “The life span of clouds is very short, so if you have multiple clouds, AI can help the forecasters choose the optimum locations by identifying certain parameters. Now, the operations are manual.” He emphasized that AI will guide operators to the most promising cloud formations.
