UAE Central Bank Issues Commemorative Coins Honoring Founding Leaders

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has issued commemorative gold and silver coins in tribute to the “Zayed and Rashid” campaign, honoring the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The issuance underscores the leaders’ pivotal roles in establishing the Union and aims to reinforce national identity.

The 40-gram gold coin, with a diameter of 40 mm, features the likenesses of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid on its obverse. The reverse displays the national emblem, encircled by the words “Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates” in both Arabic and English. This gold edition will be exclusively available for purchase at the CBUAE’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

A silver coin weighing 50 grams and measuring 50mm in diameter also depicts the two leaders on its obverse. Its reverse side includes the national emblem, the Central Bank’s name in Arabic and English, and the phrase “Commemorative Coin” in Arabic. The coin can be purchased through the CBUAE’s official website.

Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, stated, “We proudly announce the issuance of these commemorative coins, which embody the meanings of loyalty and belonging to the national legacy left by the founding leaders… This issuance marks the Zayed and Rashid campaign, aiming to solidify the values of unity and development upon which our nation was founded. Balama emphasized the bank’s commitment to “immortalising our national history and fostering it in the hearts of future generations.”
