The UAE Cybersecurity Council has issued a warning to the public about the increasing use of “deepfake” videos and audio clips created with artificial intelligence, which produce highly realistic but misleading content.
The Council highlighted that advancements in AI tools are enabling the accurate replication of real people’s voices and appearances, making such content potentially deceptive and capable of spreading false or harmful information.
It urged the public to exercise caution when consuming and sharing digital content, advising against reposting material of uncertain authenticity. The Council also recommended verifying any content attributed to public figures or national institutions through official and trusted channels.
The Council emphasized that raising awareness about the risks of deepfake technology is a critical first step in defending against digital misinformation and safeguarding the reputation of the UAE’s national symbols and official institutions.
It also noted that Federal Decree-Law No. (34) of 2021 on Countering Rumors and Cybercrimes imposes strict penalties on those who commit such offenses, as part of broader efforts to protect society from cybercrime, fake news, and online fraud.
