Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure-chaired Joint Committee for Security and Safety has initiated the National Winter Traffic Safety Campaign, which seeks to create awareness among the people on how to practice safe behavior at the petrol stations and to reduce the number of accidents occurring due to unsafe refueling behavior.
The campaign will be carried out together with the General Command of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior, and major fuel retailers such as ADNOC Distribution, Emirates, and ENOC.
The month-long program, launched on December 22, aims at enhancing safety awareness when refueling, especially among drivers of desert motorcycles and vehicles, but also encourages life-saving behaviors that can help protect lives, property, and infrastructure.
Awareness messages will be spread over digital and social media, and by the use of guidance screens that are run by partner entities at petrol stations and along federal roads.
The campaign is supposed to reinforce preventive action, promote adherence to the accepted safety processes, and support a national culture of safety.
The most important safety messages include the importance of turning off the engines of vehicles and motorcycles prior to refueling, not sitting on the motorcycles during refueling, having vehicles and motorcycles parked properly, and observing safety information strictly in petrol stations.
Therefore, motorists are also urged to refrain from using mobile phones during refueling. Eng Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, stated that the campaign highlights the individual dedication of the concerned parties to improve the standard of safety at petrol stations by providing effective and concentrated awareness programs.
He added that “We will continue to work with our partners from government entities and national companies to intensify awareness initiatives and unify efforts aimed at protecting lives, reducing risks, and building a safer and more sustainable environment.”
