The UAE will commemorate World Humanitarian Day tomorrow, reaffirming its leadership in delivering urgent relief to vulnerable communities worldwide. By mid-2024, the country’s foreign aid had reached over one billion people, valued at more than AED 368 billion (USD 100 billion+).
This year’s observance highlights the UAE’s focus on crisis zones, especially Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine:
- Gaza Relief: The UAE accounted for 44% of total international aid delivered to Gaza, conducting 73 airdrops under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 with nearly *4,000 tonnes of food and supplies.
- Sudan: At the High-Level Humanitarian Conference in February 2025, the UAE pledged USD 200 million, raising its decade-long aid to Sudan to USD 3.5 billion.
- Ukraine: A USD 4.5 million contribution was signed with the Olena Zelenska Foundation, benefitting 1.2 million people, including women and children. The UAE also facilitated 16 prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, covering 4,349 detainees.
- Disaster Relief: From floods in Chad and Somalia to earthquakes in Myanmar and wildfires in Albania, the UAE deployed food, medical aid, and emergency response teams.
- Health & Development: New projects include the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Hospital and dialysis centre in Chad, and the global Fathers’ Endowment campaign for healthcare in underserved communities.
Through these initiatives, the UAE has strengthened its reputation as a global humanitarian hub, committed to alleviating suffering and advancing peace through aid and mediation.
