UAE Supplies Over 40% of Japan’s Oil Imports In May, Retains Top Spot

The United Arab Emirates led Japan’s crude oil imports in May 2025, supplying 30.42 million barrels and accounting for 40.8% of Japan’s total imports for the month.

According to data from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the UAE’s contribution made it the largest single supplier, highlighting the strong energy ties between the two nations. Overall, Japan imported 74.61 million barrels of crude oil in May, with oil from Arab nations comprising 90.9% of the total, around 67.81 million barrels reaffirming the region’s critical role in meeting Japan’s energy needs.
