A sudden dust storm swept through Abu Dhabi on Thursday afternoon, prompting health and safety warnings for residents. By 1 pm, strong northwesterly winds had kicked up thick dust clouds, sharply reducing visibility across several roads and affecting both motorists and pedestrians.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported that the dusty conditions are expected to continue until 6 pm, especially in internal and coastal regions. Not only this but the Abu Dhabi Police have also issued a warning to drivers, urging them to be extra cautious and avoid distractions such as using mobile phones or recording videos while behind the wheel.
In a statement, the police shared, “Abu Dhabi Police urges drivers to be cautious due to low visibility during high winds and dust .. And for your saftey and for the safety of others on the road, please do not be distracted by taking any videos or using your phone.”
These precautions aim to reduce risks as visibility remains poor due to the ongoing weather disturbance.
