The UAE is entering the peak of its summer season, with temperatures nearing a scorching 49 degrees Celsius. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) continues to issue alerts about the extreme weather fluctuations, urging residents to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke, fatigue, and dehydration.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the highest temperature recorded across the country reached 49.2°C in Owtaid, located in the Al Dhafra Region, at 3:15 PM local time.

Adding to the weather challenges, fresh southeasterly winds of up to 40 km/h have caused rough sea conditions in the Oman Sea, with offshore wave heights reaching 6 feet. Residents are feeling the full impact of the heatwave. Ashwaq Sheikh, a resident of Sharjah, shared her concerns: “It’s getting really hot. When my children returned from school, they were drenched in sweat after walking just a short distance. They’re constantly asking for cold food and juices to stay hydrated, but that often leads to congestion and dry coughs, especially because they struggle with the sudden shift between outdoor heat and indoor air conditioning.”

Similarly, Sahana from Ajman noted, “This happens every year when temperatures start to rise. You can literally feel the humidity in the air. Even indoors, if the AC is off, moisture builds up on your hands and feet. It leaves the body feeling tired and sluggish.

Others have expressed concerns about long-distance commutes between emirates, which are becoming increasingly exhausting and uncomfortable in the extreme heat. The constant exposure to high temperatures, combined with heavy traffic and prolonged travel times, has led to complaints of fatigue and suffocation.

While the intense heat is expected to persist over the next couple of months, authorities continue to urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and follow weather advisories to stay safe during the summer season.
