Families of two victims from the Air India Boeing 787-8 (AI171) crash in Ahmedabad have alleged that the bodies sent back to the UK were misidentified, DailyMail reported. DNA tests reportedly revealed discrepancies in at least two caskets, not matching the relatives’ DNA.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs affirmed it is “working closely with the UK side” to resolve these concerns. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that victim identification followed “established protocols and technical requirements,” asserting that the remains were handled with professionalism and dignity, as per The Economic Times.

Officials cautioned that in severe accidents, like this crash, tissue from multiple people may merge, complicating DNA identification. This issue likely contributed to the mismatches detected.

After the June 12 crash killed 241 onboard and dozens on the ground, around 12–13 sets of remains were repatriated to the UK, with the discrepancy affecting at least two families.

Investigations are underway by authorities in both countries to ensure accountability and improve victim identification protocols. – This story is updated from different sources.
