His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, today, on Aug 2, reviewed the latest developments of the Etihad Rail project by taking a passenger train journey from Dubai to Fujairah. The visit highlights his active involvement in key national infrastructure projects and ensuring they align with the UAE’s broader development goals for the future.

Marking a Milestone Toward 2026 Operations

The journey represents a significant milestone in the UAE’s national railway development. The passenger service is set to begin commercial operations in 2026, further connecting the nation through advanced, efficient, and sustainable transport.

Sheikh Mohammed described Etihad Rail as one of the UAE’s most important infrastructure projects, with far-reaching economic, social, and developmental impact.

“Etihad Rail is a vital economic artery that supports the UAE’s journey to the future,” he said. He emphasized the project’s role in building a robust logistics network and enhancing the quality of life across all emirates.

His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, commented on the historic nature of the journey and praised the enduring support of the UAE’s leadership throughout the project’s phases—from the “Projects of the 50” announcement in 2021 to the launch of freight operations in 2023.

Infrastructure Ready to Serve

Passenger stations in Dubai and Fujairah will act as major hubs once operations begin. The rail network is built to the highest standards of safety, comfort, and sustainability, further establishing the UAE’s leadership in modern transport solutions.

Connecting 11 Cities by 2030

The full passenger network will link 11 cities from Al Sila to Fujairah, connecting key communities and advancing the UAE’s transport strategy. It is expected to carry up to 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030, with trains reaching speeds of 200 km/h and stations first opening in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah.
