On Monday, the White House dismissed reports that border czar Tom Homan secretly took cash in an alleged bribery operation involving $50,000 last year, which was given to him by FBI undercover officers in an alleged bribery sting operation.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, addressed these reports at a press briefing. She stated, “Mr. Homan never took the $50,000 that you’re referring to, so you should get your facts straight.” Leavitt added, “This was another example of the weaponization of the Biden [Department of Justice].”
She also charged the FBI with “entrap one of the president’s top allies.”
Leavitt’s remarks followed reports from MSNBC and The New York Times. These outlets claimed that Homan accepted the cash after telling undercover agents he would help them secure government contracts if then-candidate Donald Trump was re-elected.
MSNBC, which first reported on the operation, stated that the Justice Department and FBI were waiting to see if Homan would keep his promise if he were to receive a top administration position.

However, the investigation was halted when Trump came into power and was finally concluded a few weeks ago, following an investigation by FBI Director Kash Patel.
According to the Times, Justice Department officials were unsure that prosecutors could persuade a jury that Homan took the money in consideration of executing certain acts.
MSNBC reported that Homan took the cash as part of a meeting in a location in Texas on September 20, 2024, based on a summary of the case and sources.
The reports were promptly dismissed as politically motivated by the White House, Justice Department, and FBI.
On Monday, Leavitt states, “The White House and the president stand by Tom Homan 100%, because he did absolutely nothing wrong.”
