Saudi Arabia has begun construction on a dedicated logistics corridor connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park, a project valued at over SAR 689 million (approximately US$184 million). The initiative aims to significantly boost the port’s handling capacity and strengthen the Kingdom’s supply chains.

HE Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), laid the foundation stone for the project, which Mawani is executing. The 17-kilometer corridor will feature two lanes in each direction and include 12 bridges, designed to facilitate direct truck movement between the port and the logistics park, thereby circumventing the city’s internal road network.

Minister Al-Jasser stated that this direct connection is expected to increase Jeddah Islamic Port’s handling capacity by 10% and enhance overall truck movement efficiency. The project aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), a key component of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub, connecting three continents.

The dedicated corridor is also expected to ease traffic flow, enhance road safety in Jeddah by segregating heavy truck traffic, and mitigate environmental concerns, including visual and noise pollution, around the port area. Additional features will include emergency access points, maintenance facilities, and a comprehensive rainwater drainage system, all of which contribute to lower carbon emissions and reduced congestion.

This infrastructure development is expected to deliver substantial benefits to transporters, importers, exporters, logistics park users, and shipping lines by streamlining cargo and container movement and enhancing supply chain efficiency. It also aims to unlock new investment opportunities in the region.

Jeddah Islamic Port, situated on the Red Sea coast, is a critical logistics and trade hub. Spanning 12.5 square kilometers, the port comprises 62 multi-purpose berths, specialized terminals, and advanced facilities.
