Jannik Sinner delivered a stunning performance on Centre Court Friday, defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets to reach his first-ever Wimbledon final. The 23-year-old Italian overwhelmed the seven-time champion 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, ending Djokovic’s eight-year run of reaching the final at the All England Club.
Having lost to Djokovic in their two previous Wimbledon encounters, Sinner returned stronger and more focused, displaying powerful and precise shot-making that left the 38-year-old Serbian star unable to respond. Djokovic, who was aiming for a seventh consecutive Wimbledon final, looked vulnerable from the outset, winning just six points on Sinner’s serve in the first two sets.
Though Djokovic briefly rallied in the third set to go up 3-0, Sinner quickly regained control, closing out the match in under two hours. Djokovic also appeared to be struggling physically in the latter stages, requiring medical treatment before Sinner wrapped up the win with clinical efficiency.
Sinner will now face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final, a rematch of their epic French Open semifinal in which Alcaraz triumphed after more than five hours of play. With both players in top form, fans can expect a thrilling showdown between two of tennis’s brightest young stars.
