The Arab Republic of Egypt has launched the first preliminary camel race of 2025 at the Alamein Camel Racing Track, marking the start of this year’s annual camel racing season. The event is being organised in coordination with the Egyptian Camel Racing Federation, with support from the UAE Camel Racing Federation.
This year’s programme features five races in total — four preliminary rounds and a final — with 32 heats in each race. Participation has been strong, with over 1,400 camels registered, underscoring the growing popularity and cultural importance of the sport.
A key highlight of the competition is the use of robot jockeys, introduced to modernise the sport while maintaining its heritage. These innovations are designed to support the sport’s sustainability and align with evolving global practices.
Both the Alamein and Sharm El-Sheikh tracks have emerged as leading venues for camel racing in the region. Together, they host a series of qualifiers each year, culminating in the final festival set to take place in December 2025 at Alamein.
By blending tradition with innovation, Egypt continues to strengthen camel racing’s position as a heritage sport while boosting its appeal to wider regional and international audiences.
