The countdown to the 2026 Indian Premier League final has triggered a travel rush across Ahmedabad, sending hotel tariffs, airfares, and ticket resale prices sharply higher as thousands of cricket fans scramble to secure seats for the season’s biggest match.
The final, scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, has transformed the city into one of India’s hottest travel destinations this week, with accommodation and transport providers capitalising on surging demand. The stadium, which can accommodate more than 130,000 spectators, is expected to host a near-capacity crowd.
Travel industry executives said airfares on major routes including Delhi-Ahmedabad and Bengaluru-Ahmedabad have doubled in recent days as bookings accelerated ahead of the final. Premium economy and business-class seats on several flights are already sold out, particularly on services arriving close to match day.
According to travel operators, one-way fares from Bengaluru have climbed beyond ₹22,800 on certain routes, compared with typical prices ranging between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000.
Hotels across Ahmedabad and neighbouring Gandhinagar are also witnessing exceptionally strong demand.
Industry officials said several properties near the stadium have either sold out or significantly increased room rates through dynamic pricing models. Some budget hotels located close to the venue have reportedly raised tariffs to nearly ten times their usual levels as occupancy rates surge.
Hotel operators estimate that most budget and mid-range properties in the area are already fully booked, while premium hotels are witnessing occupancy levels approaching capacity ahead of the weekend.
The demand surge has also spilled into the informal accommodation market, with residents reportedly renting out studio apartments and short-duration stays to visiting fans looking for alternatives amid limited hotel availability.
Meanwhile, IPL final tickets are nearly sold out through official channels, with resale listings appearing across social media platforms at prices reportedly reaching up to five times their original value. Ticket prices on the official platform range from ₹2,500 for upper-tier seating to ₹25,000 for premium hospitality sections.
Travel companies expect a significant influx of supporters arriving by road as rising airfare costs and limited flight availability push many fans toward alternative transport options. Return travel costs immediately after the match are also expected to remain elevated because of concentrated demand.
The frenzy highlights the growing commercial power of the Indian Premier League, which continues to drive tourism, hospitality demand, airline bookings, and consumer spending across host cities during marquee fixtures.
