Shubman Gill is poised for a major career milestone as the BCCI prepares to finalize its central contracts for the 2025-26 season. Reports indicate that the Indian cricket captain across Test and ODI formats is likely to be promoted to the elite Grade A+ category, reflecting his growing stature and leadership role in the team.
The official announcement is expected during the BCCI’s 31st Annual General Meeting on December 22, where the terms of the new contracts will be finalized.
If elevated to Grade A+, Gill will join a select group of top-tier players like Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, receiving one of the highest-paid contracts in Indian cricket.
The promotion would acknowledge his consistent performance and emerging leadership, blending his on-field excellence with his responsibilities as captain.
Gill’s rise has been remarkable in recent times. Appointed as ODI captain following Rohit Sharma’s tenure, he soon took over as Test captain after Rohit’s retirement, surpassing strong contenders such as Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah.
His first Test series as captain, against a challenging England side away from home, ended in a respectable 2-2 draw, showcasing his calm demeanor and leadership strength. This consistent performance has strengthened his credentials, making the proposed Grade A+ promotion a fitting recognition of his growing influence in Indian cricket.
