At the Indian Wells tournament, the 20-year-old from Irvine overcame fellow American Ben Shelton in a hard-fought third-round match, clinching a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory on Stadium One. The win moves Tien further into the tournament and marks a significant milestone in his young career.

Reflecting on the match, Tien shared that competing on Stadium One held special meaning for him. “I remember sitting in those corner seats as a kid, watching some of my favorite players compete,” he said. “Being on the same court now, and winning, feels like my journey has come full circle.”

The match itself was a challenge. Shelton, ranked eighth in the world, battled through illness but still showcased his signature aggressive play and powerful serve. Tien admitted he had to work hard to maintain rhythm and composure during key points, but his perseverance paid off.

With this victory, Tien’s record against top-10 players improves to six wins and five losses—a sign of his growing stature on the ATP Tour. Next up, he faces Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, ranked 19th in the world, as he continues his run at Indian Wells.

This win not only demonstrates Tien’s skill on the court but also highlights the emotional journey of a young player turning childhood inspiration into professional achievement.
