Amid escalating military conflict between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has decided to suspend the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season indefinitely, sources told IANS following an emergency meeting held on Friday.
Thursday’s IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off after 10.1 overs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, following air and drone strikes from Pakistan. The attacks caused blackouts in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur—areas in close proximity to Dharamshala—casting uncertainty over the remainder of the tournament. In response, the BCCI convened an emergency meeting to decide the way forward.
“IPL is to be suspended; the BCCI will issue detailed information shortly,” sources told IANS on Friday. “Yes, the meeting just concluded. After discussions with all concerned authorities, this decision was made. Further details will be shared by the BCCI,” the source added.
“The BCCI wants to stand with the nation during this time and has therefore suspended IPL 2025 with immediate effect. The suspension is indefinite at the moment, and resuming the tournament will depend on the availability of a window later in the year. For now, nothing is confirmed,” said IPL sources to IANS.
Following the abandonment of the Dharamshala match, several Australian players participating in the league reportedly expressed concerns about their safety.
A special train has been arranged to evacuate players and support staff of Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, as well as match officials, commentators, broadcast crew, and other key IPL personnel to a secure location.
India launched precision airstrikes targeting nine high-value terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In response, Pakistan attempted to strike multiple military targets in Northern and Western India on May 7–8.
On Thursday morning, India targeted air defence radars and systems at various locations in Pakistan, successfully neutralizing one at Lahore.
Later, Pakistan launched aerial attacks on Jammu and several military stations near the western border, which were successfully intercepted by India’s air defence systems.
