One year after opening its doors, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi has strengthened its position as one of the UAE capital’s most innovative cultural attractions, redefining how audiences engage with art through immersive, technology-driven experiences.

Located within the Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, the museum has become a key part of Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to position itself as a global destination for culture, creativity, and experiential tourism.

Unlike traditional museums where visitors passively observe artworks, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi offers fully interactive environments in which visitors become part of the artistic experience itself. Installations respond dynamically to movement, presence, light, and sound, creating constantly evolving spaces that transform each visit into a unique sensory journey.

The concept has helped reshape the city’s cultural tourism landscape by moving beyond conventional exhibition formats toward immersive participation. Visitors navigate digital environments that continuously adapt, blurring the boundaries among art, science, technology, and human interaction.

Speaking to Emirates News Agency, Takashi Kudo, Communications Director of teamLab, said the museum complements the wider ecosystem of the Saadiyat Cultural District by adding a distinctly interactive layer to Abu Dhabi’s cultural offerings.

“While neighboring cultural institutions are dedicated to preserving and narrating heritage and history, teamLab Phenomena offers a living exploratory space where the boundaries of art, science, and perception intersect,” Kudo said.

He added that the experience shifts visitors from passive observation to active participation, allowing them to engage directly with their surroundings.

Kudo noted that the museum represents a fundamental transformation in the relationship between the audience and the artwork itself.

“Instead of standing before the artwork and contemplating it, the visitor becomes an integral part of it in an experience that goes beyond display to full immersion,” he said.

The museum forms part of Abu Dhabi’s growing portfolio of internationally recognized cultural institutions on Saadiyat Island, which includes museums, galleries, and creative destinations aimed at positioning the emirate among the world’s leading centers for arts and culture.

Analysts say immersive and experiential attractions such as teamLab Phenomena are increasingly central to the future of cultural tourism, particularly among younger audiences seeking technology-enabled, participatory experiences rather than traditional exhibition models.
