UAE: Sharjah Announces Free Parking For Prophet’s Birthday On September 15

Sharjah Municipality has announced that public parking will be free throughout the city on Sunday, September 15, in celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, this exemption does not apply to certain seven-day paid parking zones, which remain operational throughout the week and on official holidays. These zones are marked with blue information signs.

The Prophet’s birthday, or Mawlid Al-Nabi, is observed in most Islamic countries on 12 Rabi’ Al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. This year, it falls on September 15 in the UAE and other Gulf countries.

Following this holiday, UAE residents can look forward to a long break in December for National Day celebrations. The holiday will extend from Saturday, November 30, to Tuesday, December 3, giving residents a four-day weekend.

In a separate development, Sharjah Municipality recently announced that parking around the busy Muwaileh commercial area will now incur charges throughout the week, including public holidays. This move aims to better manage the high demand for parking in the bustling residential and commercial hub. Blue directional signs have been installed to inform motorists of the new paid parking timings and fees in the area.
