Apple Inc. is preparing to use artificial intelligence (AI) to solve one of the most persistent complaints from iPhone users: battery life. According to a Bloomberg report, the company plans to roll out a new AI-powered battery-management feature as part of its upcoming iOS 19 software update, set for release in September.

The feature, still unannounced, will reportedly rely on on-device AI to monitor how each user interacts with their phone and dynamically adjust settings to reduce power consumption. This could include throttling background activity, delaying non-urgent tasks until charging, and tuning system performance—all in real time.

Smarter, More Personalized Power Management

While current iPhones already include tools like Optimised Battery Charging and the Battery Health menu, the new system is expected to be more adaptive and tailored to each user. By learning usage habits over time, the phone can make more precise decisions to extend battery life without compromising performance.

The AI integration continues Apple’s broader “Apple Intelligence” strategy, which debuted last year. That rollout included new features such as intelligent text editing, notification summarisation, custom emoji generation, and AI-assisted photo editing and sketching.

iOS 19 Launch Timeline

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 19 and its features at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2025, with the public release coming in September.

AI in Developer Tools: Apple–Anthropic Collaboration

In parallel, Apple is reportedly collaborating with Anthropic PBC to develop a new AI-enhanced coding platform. The tool, internally known as a “vibe-coding” platform, would integrate Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet language model into Xcode, Apple’s software development environment.

This AI-powered system aims to allow developers to write, edit, and test code using natural language, streamlining internal workflows and speeding up product development. The project is not currently intended for public release, but it reflects Apple’s growing investment in AI tools that boost both consumer experience and engineering efficiency.

Apple’s dual AI push—improving both end-user performance and internal development—signals a deeper shift in how the company plans to enhance device intelligence, conserve power, and empower developers.
