U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly exited the G7 summit in Calgary on Monday evening to address escalating security concerns in the Middle East, cutting short his attendance and cancelling a scheduled bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Trump’s early departure came less than 24 hours after his arrival at the summit. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed the development, stating: “Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.”
The announcement coincided with a provocative post from the president, who warned, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Teheran.” In the same message, he added, “Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again!”
Upon his return to Washington, Trump is expected to head straight into a National Security Council meeting in the White House Situation Room. The urgency follows increasing speculation that the U.S. could join Israel in a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, specifically the deeply buried Fordo enrichment site.
Military analysts have noted that such an operation would require the use of the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator. This 20-foot-long, 13,600-kilogram bunker-buster bomb can only be delivered by a U.S. B-2 stealth bomber. “Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON,” Trump reiterated in his post.
The possibility of U.S. involvement has sparked divisions within Trump’s own base. Commentator Tucker Carlson, speaking on Steve Bannon’s podcast, criticized the president, suggesting that intervention in another foreign war contradicts the America First doctrine. Carlson argued that “the U.S., already financially strapped, would only be weakened by getting involved in another war.”
Trump responded pointedly on social media: “Someone please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that Iran can not have a nuclear weapon!”
Other voices from the MAGA movement have echoed Carlson’s sentiments. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene warned, “Anyone slobbering for the U.S. to become fully involved in the Israel/Iran war is not America First/MAGA. Wishing for murder of innocent people is disgusting. We are sick and tired of foreign wars. All of them. And this one will quickly engulf the Middle East, BRICS, and NATO as countries are required to take a side.”
As the crisis unfolds, Trump’s decision to align U.S. military power with Israel’s regional offensive marks a pivotal moment in an increasingly volatile geopolitical landscape.
