Singer and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine has revealed he is finished getting new tattoos, citing pain as the main reason.

In an interview with Today.com, Levine spoke candidly about his heavily tattooed body, noting that his latest ink was a complete refresh of the sleeve on his left arm.

While the singer acknowledged that getting fresh ink can be “fun,” he also admitted that the experience has become increasingly painful.

“I covered up my sleeve with another sleeve. Who does that? What is wrong with me? Psychotic,” Levine said.

The recent tattoo session, which involved reworking an existing sleeve, took a toll on the 45-year-old artist.

“Now, I’ve softened. Now, when I get a tattoo, I’m like, ‘This hurts so badly.’ Like, ‘What’s wrong?’ We’re done,” he added.

When asked about his favourite tattoo, Levine said there were “too many” to choose from but eventually singled out the tattoos on his hands that spell out “true love” across his fingers.

Levine has long been known for his extensive body art, which complements his rockstar persona as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of Maroon 5, the pop-rock band he helped reform in 2001 after the disbanding of Kara’s Flowers, his earlier musical venture.

Maroon 5 rose to fame with their 2002 album Songs About Jane, which went multi-platinum in the US. The band has since released six more albums and won three Grammy Awards.

Beyond his band’s success, Levine also achieved solo recognition with his feature on Gym Class Heroes’ 2011 hit “Stereo Hearts”, which climbed into the Billboard Hot 100’s top five.
