Lakshya Sen is back in champion mode — and Sydney just witnessed a masterclass. India’s rising badminton star kicked off his 2025 season with a resounding victory at the Australian Open Super 500, securing his sixth BWF World Tour title.

The 23-year-old produced a commanding performance against Japan’s Yushi Tanaka, sealing the final in just 38 minutes with a straight-games win of 21-15, 21-11. This was the pair’s first meeting, but Sen’s sharp pace, precision, and aggressive gameplay ensured Tanaka never found room to settle.

This triumph marks Lakshya’s first title since December of last year, making him only the second Indian player in 2025 to win a BWF World Tour event — following Ayush Shetty’s victory at the US Open Super 300 earlier this season.

Sen entered the final brimming with confidence after a gritty semi-final battle, where he saved three match points against experienced campaigner Chou Tien Chen. His quarter-final win came against fellow Indian shuttler Ayush Shetty, adding further weight to his unstoppable run in Sydney.

With exceptional court control, explosive shot-making, and composed finishing, Lakshya dominated both games of the final and closed the match with complete authority. This victory adds to his impressive list of international achievements, including the India Open, Canada Open, and two Super 100 titles.

Lakshya Sen has sent a clear message with this season-opening triumph: he’s ready, he’s focused, and 2025 may just be his biggest year yet.
