The Asian Youth Modern Sailing Championship is set to begin tomorrow, Thursday, 25th December, at Al Hamriyah Club, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The event is being organised by Al Hamriyah Club in collaboration with the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation, with participation from 18 countries.
Al Hamriyah Club organised the official press conference for the championship last Monday, during which the Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, Humaid Al Shamsi, expressed his highest gratitude and appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for his gracious patronage of the Asian Championship.
Al Shamsi highlighted that hosting the continental event reflects the ongoing growth of the sailing sports ecosystem in the UAE, beginning with the club’s accreditation as an international training center, followed by hosting Arab and international championships and training camps.
He also acknowledged the strong collaboration with the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation, the Sharjah Sports Council, and Al Hamriyah Municipality, as well as the support of sponsors “Ajmal Makan” and “Asas Steel.”
Mohammed Al Obaidli, Secretary-General of the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation, remarked that the championship represents a landmark in the sport’s development, as it is the first continental event held after a six-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that the event demonstrates the Asian Sailing Federation’s confidence in the UAE and Al Hamriyah Club, recognising their capability to organise continental championships to the highest technical and organisational standards.
