The ‘Kronshled’ Ice Sculpture Festival has opened on Hare Island in St Petersburg, turning the historic site into a winter wonderland with illuminated ice installations, according to Viory.

Project Director Nikolai Labutin stated that 21 sculptors contributed to the creation of the ice artworks. He added that the festival includes 14 compositions celebrating the country’s peoples, with the aim of promoting domestic tourism and showcasing cultural traditions reflected in myths, fairy tales, and philosophy.

The festival is being hosted at the Peter and Paul Fortress and will run until 14 January. This year, artists from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus are presenting works under the theme “Fairy-tale and Hospitable St Petersburg.”
