The Malayalam film industry is mourning a heartbreaking loss. Former child actor Hari Murali, who won hearts with his charming performance in the 2004 film Rasikan, has been found dead at his residence in Payyannur, Kerala. He was just 27 years old.
According to reports, Murali was discovered at his home in Annoor near Payyannur on Thursday morning and was later taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The tragic news has sent shockwaves across the Malayalam entertainment industry, where Murali was fondly remembered as one of the most recognisable child actors of the early 2000s.
A Child Star Who Grew Up on Screen
Hari Murali’s journey in entertainment began incredibly early. He reportedly stepped into the spotlight at just four years old, appearing in television before moving into films.
His big-screen breakthrough came with director Lal Jose’s Rasikan in 2004, starring Dileep. Murali’s role as the lovable young character nicknamed “Unnikuttan” made him instantly memorable among audiences.
During his childhood acting career, Murali went on to appear in several Malayalam films, including Annan Thambi, Madambi, Don, and Pattanathil Bhootham. He even shared screen space with major stars like Mammootty and Dileep, quickly becoming a familiar face in family entertainers of the era.
By some estimates, the young actor appeared in dozens of projects, building a reputation as one of Malayalam cinema’s most active child artists at the time.
A Different Path in the Film Industry
Like many child actors, Murali eventually stepped away from the spotlight to focus on his studies. After a brief return to acting, including a role in the 2015 film Amar Akbar Anthony, he gradually transitioned to work behind the scenes.
In recent years, Murali was reportedly working as a visual effects (VFX) artist, continuing his connection with the film industry in a more technical role.
A Life Cut Short
Murali came from a family closely connected to the performing arts. He was the son of theatre and drama actor K.U. Murali, widely known in Kerala’s stage circles.
His sudden passing has left fans, colleagues, and members of the Malayalam film fraternity stunned. Tributes have begun pouring in across social media, with many remembering him as the cheerful child who once lit up the screen with effortless charm.
As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, the industry is left reflecting on a life that began in front of the camera and remained tied to cinema until the very end.
For many viewers who grew up watching him, Hari Murali will always remain the unforgettable child star who brought warmth and innocence to the screen.
