Manchester City defeated Arsenal 2-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday to win its ninth League Cup title, extending its dominance in English domestic competitions and moving within one trophy of the all-time record.

Midfielder Nico O’Reilly scored twice in a four-minute span early in the second half, breaking open a match that had been largely even through the first hour. His goals in the 60th and 64th minutes put City firmly in control and left Arsenal chasing the game.

The victory gives City its first trophy of the season and underscores the club’s continued strength in knockout competitions under manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola’s latest triumph also set a new benchmark. The Spaniard has now won the League Cup five times with Manchester City, the most by any manager in the competition’s history. He moves ahead of Brian Clough, Alex Ferguson, and Jose Mourinho, who each won the trophy four times.

City’s ninth title places it just behind Liverpool, which holds the record with 10 League Cup wins.

For Arsenal, the defeat marked a missed opportunity to convert a strong run to the final into silverware. The team struggled to respond after conceding twice in quick succession, as City controlled possession and limited clear chances in the closing stages.

The result reinforces Manchester City’s status as a serial winner in domestic cup competitions, with the club continuing to add to its trophy haul during Guardiola’s tenure.
