Prithvi Shaw has made it clear that his campaign in the Indian Premier League 2026 is driven by a singular goal: earning a return to the Indian national team, as the Delhi Capitals opener looks to rebuild his career through consistent performances.
Representing Delhi Capitals this season, Shaw said he has significantly increased his effort levels, treating IPL 2026 as a crucial platform to prove his form and fitness.
“That is why I am playing. There’s no doubt that I have to come back to the Indian team. That’s exactly why I’m playing and why I’m working so hard,” Shaw said, underlining his intent ahead of the tournament.
The 24-year-old added that his preparation has evolved, with a sharper focus on intensity and discipline as he looks to make an impact in one of the most competitive T20 leagues.
“The amount of effort I used to put in, I put in three times more today. I feel I’m giving not just 100%, but 200% to make that comeback,” he said.

With IPL 2026 expected to play a key role in shaping national team selections, Shaw’s performances at the top of the order will be closely watched, particularly as India looks to refresh its batting options in the shorter format.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining full commitment during training and match preparation, saying there is little value in partial effort in a high-performance environment like the IPL.
“If I’m not feeling good, then I won’t be practising. You don’t get anything by practising at 50%. If you’re on the ground, you give your 100%, or you don’t come to the ground at all,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey, Shaw acknowledged the ups and downs in his career, adding that self-awareness has been key to his growth as a player.
“Whatever ups and downs happened, I faced them with respect and a smile. As you grow up, you realise your own mistakes. You don’t need seniors or mentors to tell you what you already know,” he said.
For Shaw, IPL 2026 represents more than just another season; it is a defining opportunity to translate effort into performance and re-enter the national conversation.
