Jaguar Land Rover is recalling more than 170,000 vehicles in the United States due to a defect that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power, raising safety concerns.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects 170,169 vehicles across several models, including Range Rover, Discovery, Range Rover Sport, and Defender.

The issue has been linked to a failure in the DC-DC converter, which prevents the vehicle’s 12-volt electrical system from charging. This malfunction can result in a complete loss of drive power and even disable exterior lighting, increasing the risk of accidents.

At present, a fix for the problem is still under development, with regulators and the company working on a solution.

The recall adds to a series of recent challenges for the luxury automaker, which has faced supply chain disruptions and operational setbacks in recent months.

For vehicle owners, the development underscores the importance of responding promptly to recall notices, as issues affecting core systems such as power and lighting can have significant safety implications.
