Xi Jinping has thanked Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s role in mediating talks linked to the Iran conflict, highlighting Beijing’s growing diplomatic engagement in efforts to stabilise the region.
The remarks came during Sharif’s visit to Beijing, where the two leaders held high-level talks focused on regional security, economic cooperation, and the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
According to reports, Xi praised Pakistan’s “constructive role” in facilitating communication between the United States and Iran, as tensions surrounding the conflict continue to impact global energy markets and regional stability.
Xi also acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, who has reportedly played a key role in diplomatic outreach connected to the negotiations.
The meeting underscored China’s broader push to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, particularly as disruptions linked to the conflict threaten global trade routes, shipping costs, and energy supply chains. Analysts say Beijing remains deeply concerned about instability affecting the Strait of Hormuz and wider regional commerce.
During the discussions, both countries also reaffirmed their strategic partnership and pledged deeper cooperation across sectors including artificial intelligence, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital trade.
China and Pakistan additionally reiterated support for regional diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring stability and maintaining secure navigation routes in the Gulf region.
