Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, welcomed Jürgen Barke, Minister of Economics, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy and Deputy Prime Minister of the German State of Saarland, to discuss potential collaboration in renewable and clean energy.

The meeting included DEWA officials such as Marwan bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation & the Future, and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources.

Both parties emphasized the shared dedication of the UAE and Germany to speeding up the global energy transition, promoting clean technology innovation, and strengthening partnerships that advance climate action and sustainable economic growth.

Al Tayer presented DEWA’s major projects and strategic initiatives, highlighting Dubai’s role as a global center for clean energy and green economy solutions.

He showcased the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, currently the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the independent power producer (IPP) model, which is expected to reach a production capacity of over 8,000 megawatts by 2030.

The solar park is central to achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming for the emirate’s entire power capacity to come from clean sources by 2050.

Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s Green Hydrogen project at the solar park, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar energy.

He noted that the project supports research and development, exploring green hydrogen as a clean fuel for transportation, industry, and energy storage, contributing to building a sustainable hydrogen economy.

Al Tayer added that DEWA continues to implement advanced technologies in renewable energy, smart grids, energy storage, and digital transformation to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability across its operations.

He reaffirmed DEWA’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and knowledge exchange to accelerate innovation in clean and renewable energy.

Barke praised the UAE’s ambitious clean energy goals and DEWA’s leadership in deploying large-scale renewable energy initiatives.
