As we approach the winter season, skincare becomes a top priority, especially for UAE residents who are now almost used to the scorching heat that swishes by for most time of the year. While it’s common for skin to act up and become dry during winter, there’s no need to worry. To help you maintain healthy skin, we’ve compiled a list of essential tips recommended by experts. Here’s what they suggest to keep your skin glowing this winter.
Aishaa Khan, with her 9 years of experience in the makeup industry in Dubai, helped us understand why hydration is crucial for UAE residents. She said, “When you’re in a cold climate, it strips your body and face off moisture and water. So that’s why hydration with heavier creams is more important during the winters, as compared to gel-based creams.”
She recommended opting for products with hyaluronic acid and something slightly heavier in texture, as these can better absorb into the skin: “Skin can soak it in better, as opposed to normal gels and gel-based moisturizers because that is just superficially applied and doesn’t penetrate the skin as well, as thicker creams do. So anything with hyaluronic acid works well. Also, during winter, layering your skincare, like with serums and then ceramide moisturizers, works because ceramides help you keep the moisture in throughout the day, so you don’t really need to keep reapplying it.”
There’s a lot of emphasis in the market on lightweight serums that contain hyaluronic acid or niacinamide to give a good glow to the skin. Backing this, Khan said, “Because that’s something our skin really lacks during winters, and then topping that up with something, either with hyaluronic acid or something that’s packed with ceramides, also really helps during winters.” She recommends her go-to product, Institut Esthederm, which she uses quite often.
We also spoke to Sanaa Khan, Makeup Specialist, and former Bobbi Brown Artist, who highlighted some more important tips for winter skincare, especially for UAE residents who spend most of their time in air-conditioned environments: “So because of the dry skin that most people have, we usually go for products that are hydrating. And of course, it has sunblock. That’s the main thing, you know, which is the sun in Dubai. So two of the most important prerequisites of having proper skincare is that you need to have hydration, SPF-infused products, and also we use a primer before prepping the skin.”
Explaining the importance of primer, Khan added, “It usually is something that smoothens the pores, blurs the lines and fine lines and all of that. We also have certain oils, they’re called Face oils. They are for dry skin, but then those are for extremely dry skin, like skin that’s flaking, and also sometimes people need that glow on the face,” recommending products from Clinique and Cetaphil.
