Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burnley FC at Turf Moor, a result that also confirmed the hosts’ relegation.

The decisive moment came early, as Erling Haaland struck in the 5th minute to register his 35th goal of the season, capping off a blistering start from City.

Pep Guardiola’s side came out with intent, carrying momentum from their recent win over Arsenal. Within the opening minutes, City carved out a clear opportunity when Rayan Cherki’s goal-bound effort was tipped onto the crossbar by Martin Dubravka.

Moments later, the breakthrough arrived. A sharp turn and incisive pass from Jeremy Doku released Haaland, who showed composure to lift the ball over the goalkeeper and put City ahead.

Despite dominating large spells of the game and creating multiple chances, City were unable to extend their lead. Haaland came close again in the second half, narrowly missing a low cross after a well-worked move involving Cherki and Marc Guéhi.

Burnley, meanwhile, struggled to mount a meaningful response and now faces relegation following the defeat.

The result sees City move to the summit, ending Arsenal’s 200-day stay at the top, and strengthening their position in the title race as the season heads into its final stretch.
