Vladimir Putin announced that Russia has successfully tested its latest Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), describing it as one of the country’s most advanced strategic weapons systems aimed at strengthening Russia’s nuclear and defense capabilities.

According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, the announcement followed a report presented to Putin by Sergey Karakayev, who confirmed the successful completion of the missile system’s test.

Putin stated that the Sarmat missile system is expected to enter combat duty before the end of the year.

“The Sarmat will indeed be deployed on combat duty by the end of this year,” Putin said.

The Russian president claimed the missile is capable of traveling on both ballistic and suborbital trajectories, allowing it to achieve a range exceeding 35,000 kilometers while improving accuracy and its ability to penetrate existing and future missile defense systems.

Putin also described the system as “the most powerful package system in the world,” adding that the total yield of its delivered warhead exceeds that of comparable Western systems.

The Sarmat missile, often referred to by NATO as “Satan II,” has been positioned by Moscow as a next-generation strategic deterrent capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads over long distances.

The announcement comes amid continued geopolitical tensions between Russia and Western nations, with military modernization and strategic deterrence remaining central to Moscow’s defense policy.
