U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, offering temporary relief amid ongoing regional tensions.
The decision follows a high-level meeting at the White House involving senior representatives from both countries, alongside key U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump said the discussions in the Oval Office were productive, describing the meeting as having gone “very well” in a post on Truth Social, where he confirmed the extension of the temporary truce.
The move effectively pushes back the expiration of the initial 10-day ceasefire, which was brokered last week, giving both sides additional time to pursue diplomatic engagement and avoid further escalation.
U.S. ambassadors to the region, including Mike Huckabee and Michel Issa, were also present during the discussions, underlining Washington’s active role in facilitating dialogue.
While the extension does not resolve underlying tensions, it provides a critical window for continued negotiations and efforts to stabilize the situation.
The development comes amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, with global markets closely watching for signs of escalation or de-escalation in the region.
