A Turkish Airlines aircraft was evacuated after a minor fire broke out on one of its tyres following landing at Kathmandu’s international airport on Monday, according to Nepalese aviation authorities.

The incident temporarily disrupted operations at Tribhuvan International Airport, forcing a suspension of activities for approximately one hour.

Officials said all 277 passengers and 11 crew members aboard the Airbus A330 arriving from Istanbul were safely evacuated using emergency exits after the fire was detected.

Gyanendra Bhul confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Airport emergency response teams quickly contained the fire, while authorities temporarily halted flight operations as a precautionary measure during the evacuation and inspection process.

The exact cause of the tyre fire has not yet been officially confirmed, though aviation authorities are expected to conduct a technical investigation into the incident.

Tyre-related fires can occasionally occur during landing due to overheating, brake system stress, or friction generated during touchdown, particularly on long-haul flights carrying heavy passenger and fuel loads.

Turkish Airlines has not yet released a detailed statement regarding the cause of the incident or the aircraft’s operational status following the evacuation.
