A “massive” Russian drone and missile assault killed at least 10 people in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and the surrounding region early Monday, marking the second large-scale overnight attack in a week.
Officials say the latest wave of strikes targeted multiple residential districts across the city. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, described the assault as another deliberate attack on civilians.
“Another massive attack on the capital. Possibly, several waves of enemy drones,” Tkachenko said. “The Russians’ style is unchanged – to hit where there may be people. Residential buildings, exits from shelters – this is the Russian style.”
According to Ukraine’s emergency services, residential buildings, hospitals, sports infrastructure, and even the entrance of a metro station used as a bomb shelter were damaged.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched a total of 352 drones and decoys, 11 ballistic missiles, and five cruise missiles overnight. Most were intercepted or jammed before reaching their targets.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said at least 10 people were injured, with fatalities confirmed in the Shevchenkivskyi district, where a residential building entrance was completely destroyed.
“There are still people under the rubble,” Klymenko said on Telegram.
Broader Regional Toll
The wave of attacks extended beyond Kyiv. A drone strike in the Chernihiv region on Sunday killed two people and wounded 10, including three children. Meanwhile, in Bila Tserkva, about 85 km southwest of Kyiv, one person was killed and eight others injured overnight.
Zelenskyy Warns of Expanding ‘Coalition of Murderers’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said preliminary evidence suggests North Korean missiles were used in the assault. He warned of a deepening alliance among Russia, North Korea, and Iran, which he called a: “Coalition of murderers.”
