U.S. President Donald Trump signed a landmark Executive Order on Monday, ending the Syria sanctions program in a move aimed at supporting the country’s path to peace and stability, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The White House announced that the order lifts key sanctions and authorizes the Secretary of State to consider further suspensions, either fully or partially, based on specific criteria outlined in the Caesar Act.
The new directive also eases export controls on certain goods and removes some restrictions on foreign aid to Syria. Additionally, it tasks the Secretary of State with reassessing Syria’s classification as a State Sponsor of Terrorism and exploring potential avenues for broader sanctions relief at the United Nations level.
The White House emphasized President Trump’s commitment to fostering a stable, unified Syria that can live peacefully within its borders and with its neighbors.
