Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued permits to Baidu’s Apollo Go, WeRide, and Pony.ai, allowing them to begin autonomous driving trials on public roads across the emirate. This move marks a major step toward integrating smart transport solutions into Dubai’s mobility landscape.
Expanding Dubai’s Smart Transport Ecosystem
The RTA’s collaboration with these leading tech companies brings a new layer of innovation to the city’s public transport system. By using advanced autonomous driving technologies and the operational expertise of these firms, the vehicles will undergo a range of tests to ensure they can seamlessly function in Dubai’s urban environment.
Aiming for Global Smart Mobility Standards
Working closely with the RTA, the three companies are set to create a global model for smart mobility, helping position Dubai as a frontrunner in autonomous transport technology.
Built on Earlier Agreements
These trials follow agreements signed earlier in the year between the RTA and the companies. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s roadmap to roll out autonomous taxi services, supporting the city’s broader development goals.
Towards 25% Autonomous Mobility by 2030
The move is part of Dubai’s larger vision under the Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25% of all transport in the emirate autonomous by 2030. By partnering with global leaders in the field, RTA is reinforcing Dubai’s status as a global hub for smart, future-forward mobility
